Frequently Asked Questions

A resource to learn more about Mark and the Judgeship.

Candidate Questions

Q: Why did you decide to run to be the Domestic Relations Judge?

A: I have worked in the Juvenile and Domestic Relations courts for twenty years and I have seen the consequences of having staff and providers involved in that system that are inexperienced or do not have the best interests of the children/families involved in that system in mind. I believe that I have shown over my twenty-year career that I am dedicated to those ideals and will work to ensure that the Hardin County Domestic Relations Court will be fair, open, and operate with the best interests of the people utilizing the Court in mind.

Q: Why have you decided to run as an Independent candidate?

A: It is my belief that Judges should be unbiased interpreters of the law as it’s written. They should apply the law with common sense and compassion to each case that comes before them. This should be done without influence from any other person or organization. The people who come before the Court should rightfully believe that the decisions made in their case are fair and free from influence, regardless of their race, creed, color, sexual orientation, or political affiliation. By running as an Independent, I hope to show that these are my ideals and how I intend to run the Court.

Questions regarding the Judgeship

Q: What is the Domestic Relations Divisions of Hardin County Common Pleas Court?

A: The Domestic Relations Division of the Hardin County Common Pleas Court was created through a court reorganization process. Currently the Hardin County Common Pleas Court is divided into four divisions, General, Domestic Relations, Juvenile, and Probate with one judge overseeing the first two divisions and the other judge overseeing the last two. The reorganization moves the General Division and the Probate Division under one judge and moves the current Domestic Relations Division and the Juvenile Division under the other. On January 1st, 2023, Judge Steven Christopher will oversee the General and Probate Divisions and the newly elected Judge will oversee the Domestic Relations and Juvenile Divisions, otherwise known as the “Domestic Relations” or “Family Court” Division.

  • Child Custody and Visitation
  • Paternity
  • Child Support
  • Divorce/Dissolutions
  • Spousal Support/Alimony
  • Civil Protection Orders
  • Abuse, Neglect, and Dependency
